One morning while grabbing breakfast at a McDonalds LT saw a kid asking to speak to the manager, when the manager walked out the kid said he had just aged out of the foster care system and asked if the manager knew anywhere he might be able to stay that night as couldn’t go to where he had set up for three days. The foster kid had no idea or back up plans as to where he could turn and no money to his name. This was not the first or only time LT saw things like this, but it was a reminder of how we as a society put people out into the world totally unprepared now more than ever. Knowing that it was not just a localized issue and that young people’s lack of social skills and not knowing how to write a resume or having never held a job until they are old enough to live on their own are becoming more and more common decided it was time to do something. Having assisted a number of friends with resumes and budgets to meet their needs to achieve their goal successfully, therefore Life Achieved was born.
The idea to help foster kids in need spurred LT on, however these issues aren’t just limited to foster children so LT developed Life Achieved Highschool which is a program designed to help 16–19-year-olds or all backgrounds to build confidence, remove self-imposed road blocks, work through prejudices, and gain an appreciation in oneself while developing basic skills that have been lost from the school system and parts of society in general. It concentrates on building relationships, deciding on and preparing for careers, financial freedom/education, and goals over a twelve-month period.
Because the initial idea was developed to help foster kids aging out the system to stand on their own, the company has been set up with buy one give one at its core. To learn more please check out our Buy One Give One page.
